BlizzCon 2013 Roundup and Show Review
By Dan Maurer
Another year and another BlizzCon has come and gone. This was attendance wise one of the biggest BlizzCon’s to date as more than 20,000 fans poured into the two day event to see what Blizzard had in store for its biggest franchises. This article will go into detail and focus on all the big announcements.
Heroes Of The Storm:
We learned about the development progress of the new game, Heroes of the Storm. The cinematic for the game was very well done (see below). Heroes of the Storm will be a free-to-play online team brawler style game. You will be able to “build and customize heroes from across every Blizzard universe to fit your play style”. Players will be able to team up with their friends, or with random people, and play a battleground style match where the goal is to destroy the enemy base while utilizing something in the battleground, such as collecting skulls and turning them in which will allow the team to summon a giant beast to help them defeat the enemy. There were 18 heroes here to play at BlizzCon 2013. The game is currently being developed on both PC and Mac and the game is set to enter beta very soon. Beta sign ups are currently live on your battle.net game preferences page. To find out more on the new Heroes of the Storm game, head on over to Blizzards site.

World Of Warcraft – Warlords of Draenor Expansion Announcement:
Blizzard also announced the next expansion for their long running World of Warcraft game called Warlords of Draenor. Besides a world full of new places and dungeons to explore, here is a rundown on the perks of the new expansion.
-Level Cap raised to 100
-New upgrades and builds for characters to use
-New Dungeons, Quests, and Raids
-New monsters, items, rewards, and level 100 talent
-Ability to boost to Level 90 and play immediately
The new expansion offers 7 new zones. The new areas are Frostfire Ridge, Shadowmoon Valley, Gorgrond, Talador, Spires of Arak, Nagrand, and Tanaan Jungle. However, the biggest cheers from the 20,000 plus people at BlizzCon was they announced new character models. The current original models are very dated compared to the newer races that have been introduced since release. They showed the new Dwarf, Orc, and Gnome. The new models keep the soul original but are very much more detailed from head to toe.

Diablo 4 for PlayStation 4:
Also announced at BlizzCon was an expanded edition of Diablo 3 for PlayStation 4. Not too long ago, Blizzard hinted at a console version of the Diablo 3 expansion, Reaper of Souls. The publisher has since made this official at BlizzCon, announcing that the PS4 version, titled “The Ultimate Evil Edition,” will include both Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls in one convenient package. The Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition will come with many of the additions set to come to the PC version of Reaper of Souls, including the new Adventure Mode, Nephalem Rifts (a.k.a. Loot Runs), and the new Crusader class. Diablo 3: The Ultimate Evil Edition is to release in 2014 and at this point in time, is exclusive console wise to the PlayStation 4.
Heartstone – Heroes of Warcraft:
Blizzard’s CEO Rob Pardo confirmed that much-anticipated card trading game, Hearthstone, will be coming to Android and iOS as well as PC and Mac. The release date of the smartphone versions was not revealed, but the PC/Mac open beta will be beginning in December. “Although knowing Blizzard it will be more like January,” Pardo joked. Attendees at the convention were given a limited edition Elite Tauran Chieftan card, named after the Blizzard in-house band, who write and perform WoW-themed songs.
Warcraft Movie Details:
World of Warcraft fans have long-known that a film adaptation was on the cards – but we finally have some more information about the Hollywood adaptation. The film will be released in 2015, and filming begins in Vancouver early next year. It will focus on Anduin Lothar and Durotan, a human and an Orc, respectively. Director Duncan Jones said that he wanted to make both sides of the human and Orc struggle equally compelling, allowing the audience to empathize with either side. It could be a serious A-list affair: Colin Farrell and Paula Patton have been rumored to star in the film.
