Monte Cox – The Godfather of Mixed Martial Arts Managers
By Scott Casber
In 1994 Monte Cox was a sports reporter writing stories for newspapers in and around the quad cities. Since 1995 Monte Cox has made a living in the sport of MMA, a good living. He has been a super promoter, super agent often at odds with men like Dana White while defending his stable of talent. In the process Cox has proven out to be a good business man.
Cox has a stable of over 60 fighters, some who’ve been with him the entire time on a hand shake deal. It’s not unusual for thirty percent of his talent roster to be working on a single weekend. Monte is on the phone working for them every hour of the day and his early cell phone bills provide evidence to that fact often times going in to the thousands of dollars per month.
The Official Radio Partner of PunchDrunkGamer, Takedown Wrestling Media’s Scott Casber talked to Monte Cox about his involvement with The Fight Summit, retaining his fighters throughout the years, the increased transition of wrestlers to mixed martial arts, his full service management services, Paul Bradley, Tim Sylvia and more.
