UFC 165: Jones vs Gustafsson - Live Results and Event Coverage
September 21, 2013
Air Canada Centre
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

**Welcome to PunchDrunkGamer for our Live Results and Event Coverage of UFC 165, the Preliminary Card is over and the Main Card is LIVE now on PPV.**

UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson - Fight Card:

Main Bouts (Pay-Per-View):

UFC light heavyweight title bout:
Jon Jones def. Alexander Gustafsson via Decision - Unanimous (48-47, 48-47, 49-46)

- The Champion was bloodied and bullied by Gustafsson but it was a badass fight by both fighters. Gustafsson stopped 11 out 12 of Jones takedown attempts and won the overall strikes battle. Jones threw everything he had at the Swede and in my opinion the judges fucked Gustafsson.

UFC interim bantamweight title bout:
Renan Barão def. Eddie Wineland via TKO (Spinning back kick, GNP) Round 2 (0:35)

- Very competitive first round with Wineland probably taking it but Barao came out in round two pushing forward and landed a fucking awesome spinning back kick to Wineland's face and finished him off with some punches on the ground.

Brendan Schaub def. Matt Mitrione via Submission (D'Arce Choke) Round 1 (4:06)

Francis Carmont def. Costa Philippou via Decision - Unanimous (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Khabib Nurmagomedov def. Pat Healy via Decision - Unanimous (30-27 all judges)

Preliminary Card (Fox Sports 1):

Myles Jury def. Mike Ricci via Decision - Split (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Wilson Reis def. Ivan Menjivar via Decision - Unanimous (29-28 all judges)

Stephen Thompson def. Chris Clements via KO (Punches) Round 2 (1:27)

Mitch Gagnon def. Dustin Kimura via Submission (Guillotine Choke) Round 1 (4:05)

Preliminary Bouts (UFC Facebook):

John Makdessi def. Renee Forte via KO (Punches) Round 1 (2:01)

Michel Prazeres def. Jesse Ronson via Decision - Split (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Alex Caceres def. Roland Delorme via Decision - Split (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Daniel Omielanczuk def. Nandor Guelmino via KO (Punch) Round 3 (3:18)

Bonus Guest Panel Prediction (Ryan's pick brings the total to 17 for Jones and 1 Gustafsson):

Ryan Couture (6-3, Son of UFC Hall of Famer) – "Gustafsson is an excellent boxer with heavy hands so he has a chance in the fight as long as it stays standing but I expect Jones to take him to the ground and finish by either TKO or submission."

Five fighters joined UFC President Dana White at the UFC 165 post-fight press conference: Renan Barao, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Eddie Wineland, Brendan Schaub, and Stephen Thompson. Headliners Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson were both absent from the presser after being transported to the hospital following their bout.

Canadian bantamweight Mitch Gagnon won Submission of the Night for his win over Dustin Kimura. After engaging in a fierce first few minutes of the opening round, Gagnon survived a vicious kidney shot, then sprawled Kimura's takedown attempt, and used a guillotine choke to finish his challenger before the bell.

Interim bantamweight champion Barao took home Knockout of the Night after his second-round KO of heavy-handed Eddie Wineland. After a fast-and-furious first round, Barao landed a spinning back kick early in the second round and finished the fight via ground-and-pound.

Fight of the Night went to Jones and Gustafsson for their ultra-exciting title fight. The two light heavyweights engaged in a back-and-forth war which saw Jones walk away with unanimous decision and a new UFC record for most light heavyweight title defenses.

"Who doesn't want to see that rematch?" said a non-committal Dana White right before reminding reporters that Glover Teixeira could also be next in line.

Each bonused fighter received $50,000 for their efforts.
