Stoforidis vs. Morosanu at Superkombat World Grand Prix on August 2

The fourth Superkombat World Grand Prix event of the year is scheduled for August 2nd and the main-stream star Catalin Morosanu is ready for another epic show. The former winner of “Dancing With the Stars” and local politician in his native country, “The Carpathian Death” will face Giannis “Hercules” Stoforidis, one of the rising stars in the European kickboxing scene in the main event of the night, live on Eurosport.

Selected at the first Superkombat World Tryouts series of 2013, held in Athens, Greece, Giannis Stoforidis had an amazing run. He fought his way through to the Superkombat World Grand Prix Final of the last season losing in the semifinals due to a hand injury. Undefeated in Greece and with a record which includes 15 wins, Giannis “Hercules” Stoforidis won by an brutal KO in June and now he threatens Morosanu’s 12 win Superkombat winning streak.

“I’m hungry for the revange in Superkombat after in my last fight where I wasn’t able to qualify for the final because of my hand injury. This time I have a big chance to establish myself as a star if I win against a living legend in kickboxing. Morosanu, be afraid! Hercules is coming for war.”, announced Giannis Stoforidis, one of the Superkombat New Heroes.

A regional counselor, Morosanu (37-8-0) will make his comeback to the Superkombat ring on August 2nd, having been involved in the European Parliament elections in May and after a trip to the Czech Republic where he lost by controversial decision to Thomas Hron.

The location for the fourth Superkombat World Grand Prix event of the year will be announced soon.

Superkombat World Grand Prix in Constanta, Romania on August 2nd

Superkombat World Grand Prix in Constanta, Romania on August 2ndThe fourth Superkombat World Grand Prix event of the year will be one for the record books: two middleweight elimination bouts and one main event in the heavyweight division that will keep everyone on their toes until the bitter end. Catalin “The Carpathian Death” Morosanu, a local politician, winner of Dancing with the Stars and all around household name in Romania, will take on Giannis “Hercules” Stoforidis, a rising star on the European kickboxing scene and the first fighter to ever be discovered by the Superkombat New Heroes project. The event will, of course, will be broadcast live on Eurosport at 9pm CET.

Stoforidis is coming off an amazing battle that began in January of the last year and lasted all through last season and culminated in the last season’s of Superkombat World Grand Prix Final, which he lost due to an unfortunate hand injury. He is undefeated in his homeland of Greece, where his record includes 15 wins. The question here is, if he will be able to break Morosanu’s own 12-match Superkombat® winning streak. Morosanu is hungry for a win, though, after his controversial loss to Thomas Hron in the Czech Republic earlier this year.

The winner of the middleweight elimination fights will move on to the final elimination, scheduled on October 25. The first elimination fight of the night will see Spain’s Jonay Risco face off against Romania’s Amansio Paraschiv. Paraschiv is going to be hungry for a clear win this time around. The draw in his match against Cedric Manhoef at Superkombat New Heroes held in Ploiesti, Romania, kept the former boxer from taking home the Superkombat New Heroes belt. In the second elimination fight, Romania’s own Cristian Milea will take on Cenik Cankurtaranoglu from Turkey for a shot at the tournament final in October.

True to the Superkombat New Heroes mission of discovering and featuring new talents, this event will feature several other young, almost unknown fighters from five different countries. Not the least of which will be super cruiserweight Moises Baute from Spain. Baute was an unexpected star of the third Superkombat World Grand Prix in June. The Spaniard came out of nowhere and dominated Cristian Ristea, who couldn’t get up after being knocked down three times in the fight. The Monster from Spain then beat the UK’s Michael Terrill, with the fight being stopped with just 50 seconds left. Baute has already qualified for the Superkombat World Grand Prix Final Elimination scheduled on October 25. This time around, Baute will get into the ring with Romania’s Vlad Grigore. Can the Baute from Spain beat the Grigore in his own country? Tune in and find out or, even better, come to Constanta in Romania.

The Romanian veteran fighter Sebastian Ciobanu will battle Germany’s Nikolaj Falin in the second super cruiserweight bout of the night. Ciobanu will also be on the warpath on August 2nd after the rumble versus Jallon Corentin that ended in a draw at the Superkombat World Grand Prix held in Constanta on June 21st.

This is the second of three Superkombat® events to be hosted in the beautiful city of Constanta on the Black Sea coast. The event is part of a project to promote the tourism in the region and was organized in close cooperatio with the Romanian Riviera Tourism Board. And what better backdrop for a VIP event that comes with every Superkombat® tournament than the Romanian Riviera?
