UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem – Main Event Guest Panel Picks & Predictions

By Dave Carpinello

The UFC closes out 2011 with a major heavyweight match-up and number one contender bout between former UFC champion Brock Lesnar and the Dream, Strikeforce, and K-1 champion Alistair Overeem. Below is what some of the marquee fighters, coaches and trainers in combat sports had to say about the match-up.

UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem – Main Event Guest Panel Picks:

Paul Daley (29-11-2 MMA, Former Cage Rage British Welterweight Champion) – “I want to go with Overeem, but something tells me Brock is going to win by TKO, via GnP.”

Rob Kaman (97-12 Kickboxing, 1-0 MMA, 12 X kickboxing & Muay Thai Champion) – “I can’t say anything other than that Overeem is going to kill Lesnar. Alistair is a killer like so many of the Dutch fighters.”

Phil Baroni (14-14 MMA, The New York Badass) – “Good fight, who knows but somebody is getting stopped. I was thinking Overeem would win easy but I’m starting to think maybe Lesnar pulls it off.”

Benji Radach (21-6 MMA, Director of Instructor’s Training for LA Boxing) – “I think Overeem has the tools to whoop his ass but I also know that lesnar has the ability to take him down and put the early hurt on him. I’m going to go on a limb and say Lesnar.”

Anthony Njokuani (14-5 MMA, UFC & WEC Vet) – “Alistair Overeem by KO.”

Paul Bradley (18-4 MMA, Strikeforce & UFC Vet) – “I’m a Brock fan but I’m not sure he has what it takes to beat Overeem.  I think if Brock can get it to the ground he wins but I think he is going to have a heck of a time making that happen.  Overeem by TKO Round 2.”

Ben Askren (9-0 MMA, Decorated Wrestler & Bellator Welterweight Champion) – “I hope Lesnar wins and I think he will make it long enough and put enough pressure on Overeem to where he gases out.”

Vinny Magalhaes (9-5 MMA, Reigning ADCC Submission Wrestling World Champion) – “I think Brock will get punched in the face and that will be it… What I mean is that I don’t believe the whole he doesn’t like to get hit in the face argument, but I hear he doesn’t really spar live a whole lot in training and that’s what gets you used to getting hit.”

Muhsin Corbbrey (9-7 MMA, Shidokan World Champion) – “Me being a striker/BJJ guy I am rooting for the striker to KO the wrestler. I think that Alistair is a much more violent fighter and will stop Lesner in the 2nd. Also, people forget that Alistair has a strong submission game so I dint think he’ll get beat up on the ground. Should be a fun fight! I’m pulling for Overeem.”

Mike Reilly (Team Bison, MMA Coach, Jujitsu & Judo Black Belt) – “Alistair Overeem by 1st round referee stoppage.”

Ryan Couture (3-1 MMA, Son of UFC Hall of Famer) – “As long as Overeem’s training hasn’t suffered as a result of his recent family issues, I think he’ll get the KO win over Brock.”

George Roop (12-8-1 MMA, Ultimate Fighter Alum) – “Hard pick, but I’m going to pick Alistair Overeem because of his experience advantage.”

Jesse Finney (6-1 MMA, Owner of Finney’s H.I.T. Squad Gym) – “Brock Lesnar by second round TKO as much as I would like to see Alistair get a KO I just don’t see it.”

Eric Schafer (12-6-2 MMA, Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) – “Lesnar by TKO.”

Andy Main (5-1 MMA, Ultimate Fighter Alum) – “This is an incredible day for true fans of the sport. The linear heavyweight title is coming back to the UFC. The winner of this fight will go on to fight the champ and unify titles and there will be no question that the best heavyweight in the world resides in the UFC. I think Overeem is way too much on every level for Brock to handle. Overeem has so much experience, so much power, and is technically one of the better overall strikers in MMA. Brock might be able to get him down once or twice and maybe even take a round, but ultimately Overeem wins this in brutal fashion.”

Guest Panel Predictions Results:

Brock Lesnar – 6

Alistair Overeem – 9
