UFC Tonight host Daniel Cormier and guest host Michael Bisping break down the upcoming UFC Fight Night Las Vegas: Hendricks vs. Thompson and catch up with Johny Hendricks, Stephen Thompson and Fabricio Werdum. Karyn Bryant and Ariel Helwani add reports.

UFC Tonight host Daniel Cormier on Dana White announcing that he’ll fight Jon Jones in April: “New Mexico got it wrong. In April, I hand down Jon’s severe punishment. He has been sentenced to meet me in the Octagon. We don’t know the date or location yet, but it will happen.”

UFC Tonight guest host Michael Bisping on Stephen Thompson’s keys to victory vs. Johny Hendricks: “Key number one is to use the range. If he hasn’t got the range, he can’t use the space to throw his kicks. He has to use his footwork to keep moving so Johny can’t shoot. It’s hard to shoot on a moving target. And finally, he has to stop the takedown and keep the fight on the feet.”

Cormier on Hendricks’ keys to victory against Thompson: “At the end of the day, what makes Big Rig Big Rig is his wrestling. His first key is he needs to close the distance to get takedowns and hit guys with the big left hand. Second, he needs to throw combinations. Finally, he needs to make it easy and take him down like he did against Matt Brown.”

Bisping on who wins between Hendricks vs. Thompson: “This is a decision victory for Hendricks. For Hendricks, the safest route to victory is his wrestling. He’ll take Thompson down and grind it out.”

Bisping on how Roy Nelson vs. Jared Rosholt ends: “Big Country is going to land the big overhand right and get the knockout.”

Bisping on how Joseph Benavidez vs. Zach Makovsky will finish: “I think this will be a submission for Benavidez. They call him Joe Jitsu for a reason.”

Strikezone: Cormier and Bisping break down Hendricks vs. Thompson:

Johny Hendricks on new his new nutritionist: “I feel great. I did a slow cut. I woke up three pounds over today and I’m still training like I’d be at home.”

Hendricks on a prediction for the fight: “I don’t want to take it to a decision. I promise you, it’s not going to a decision. My power is back. My cardio is awesome. My strength is there. It’s a new Johny. On Saturday, everyone is going to see what a new Johny can do.”

Hendricks on if a win will get him closer to a title fight: “It’ll put me right there for the title shot. I’m just thinking about one thing only right now: Stephen Thompson. I used to look forward, but now I’m focused on one person and one person alone.”

Johny Hendricks Interview:

Stephen Thompson on working with Chris Weidman to counter Hendricks’ wrestling: “Early on my camp, Weidman came down to South Carolina and helped me out.”

Thompson on if he’s going to kick Hendricks, who’s a wrestler: “You’re going to see kicks. You have to throw the right kicks, high kicks, hook kicks, kicks to the head. The body kicks are easy to catch, so we’ll go to the head this weekend.”

Thompson on if he was ready for a five-round fight when scheduled for three rounds: “We asked for the five, five-minute rounds. The goal is to get title belt around my waist. This is going to prepare me for that and a huge step up and we got what we asked for.”

Thompson on if Hendricks is his toughest fight yet: “Yes. He’s the former welterweight champ. This is the toughest fight and fighter I’ve faced so far. You’re going to see some sparks flying. The goal is to put on a show and fight the best in the world. He’s definitely one of them.”

Thompson on if he wants a title shot if he finishes Hendricks: “That’s the plan. Finishing out Johny Hendricks should put me in contention. That’s the goal. It’s exciting for me to show fans and the UFC I’m ready for the next level in competition.”

Cormier on who Anthony Johnson should fight after his recent victory: “I think he waits. He’s earned a right for the title shot and to wait for me and Jon Jones to fight. He’s the rightful number-one contender.”

Bisping on who Ben Rothwell should fight next: “I think he should fight Stipe. The winner fights for the title down the line.”

Bisping on Sage Northcutt’s loss: “I don’t want to kick a kid when he’s down. But no, the submission didn’t look that tight. That was inexperience. He’s young, he’s under a lot of pressure. It’s much, much harder in there than you think. He made a mistake, he’ll learn from it and he’ll come back better.”

Fabricio Werdum on his injuries: “This time, I have an injury with my foot and I say no problem, but my back is injured too. It’s very tight. I can’t fight. It’s not my fault.”

Fabricio Werdum Interview:

UFC Tonight Insider Ariel Helwani on BJ Penn’s return: “I checked in on BJ Penn and it sounds like things are going great. He guaranteed he’ll be fighting March 5. It could be against Dennis Siver, but we’re not sure yet.”

Helwani on Alexander Gustafsson changing his training camp: “He’s back training at Alliance MMA in San Diego, He had to go back to San Diego to get love of the game back. He also might go to Thailand to get a change of scenery.”

Helwani on Yoel Romero’s provisional suspension: “Yoel and his management are awaiting the B sample results from his drug test. He passed all the tests before and after the fight. They’d like to have this sample tested again and see what it says.”

Helwani on John Dodson facing Bryan Caraway: “I had reported that Bryan Caraway was going to face John Dodson. Now it looks like that is off because Bryan can’t fight when Dodson wanted to. He has some personal issues. Dodson wants to fight that time.”

Helwani on a fight update: “I’m hearing that Andre Fili vs. Yair Rodriguez is reportedly on in April.”
