Koch Injured! Jose Aldo versus Frankie Edgar Headlines UFC 153
Frankie Edgar’s decision to drop to featherweight has not gone unrewarded, as Edgar will get a long-rumored title shot in his first outing at 145 pounds. That title shot will come sooner than expected, as Edgar is stepping in to face champion Jose Aldo at UFC 153 in October. Aldo was scheduled to meet KO artist Erik Koch, who has been forced to withdraw from the event due to injury.
“I’m pumped,” UFC president Dana White told USA Today. “I think that people are going to be very excited for this fight.”
“This main event is now not only a world title fight but also a super-fight that has long been a dream match for many fans,” said White. “Aldo and Edgar are two fantastic fighters who are always a part of the pound-for-pound debate.”

Six new, star-studded matchups, including a heavyweight collision between Gokhan Saki (76-15, 53 KO’s), who is of Turkish origin fighting for the Netherlands, and Mourad Bouzidi (65-18-2, 33 KO’s) of Tunisia have been confirmed for the GLORY 2 Brussels world-class kickboxing event at Vorst National Arena in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday, Oct. 6th.

Also confirmed for the GLORY 2 Brussels main card is a 79 kilogram/175 pound matchup between emerging forces Marc de Bonte (78-9-2, 18 KO’s) of Belgium and Murthel Groenhart (49-14-3, 25 KO’s) who hails from Surinam and is based in Holland.
A classic Benelux showdown will see Murat Direkci (69-15, 58 KO’s) of Belgium and Nieky Holzken (77-10, 4 KO’s) of the Netherlands face off at 78 kilograms/172 pounds.
Heavyweight prospect Jamal Ben-Saddik (21-0, 19 KO’s) of Antwerp will clash with Jahffar Wilnis (15-3-1, 3 KO’s) of Utrecht for another Benelux clash.

The night will feature the Bellator Season 7 Welterweight Semifinals, as well as the long awaited return of Bellator Women’s Champion Zoila Gurgel.
“From Bellator 5 in Dayton to Bellator 66 in Cleveland, the state of Ohio has been great to Bellator, so we’re excited to return to Ohio and visit the Nutter Center with Ohio favorites like Brian Rogers and Zoila Gurgel,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney.
The night will feature the semifinals of the $100,000 Bellator Season 7 Welterweight Tournament, which begins September 28 from Caesars Atlantic City. Headlined by Lyman Good, Jim Wallhead, Marius Zaromskis and Russian phenom Andrey Koreshkov, the tournament is loaded with world class Welterweights eager to earn their guaranteed title shot against reigning Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren.
For Brian Rogers, “The Predator” is eager to get back into the Bellator cage and showcase his skills in front of the Ohio faithful. While an opponent has not been finalized, Rogers is intensely focused on getting back into the win column and re-entering a future Bellator Middleweight Tournament.
“Last time I was in Ohio it was the biggest fight of my career and I embarrassed myself and let tons of buckeye friends and family down that spent their time and money to see me fight,” said Rogers. “It’s rare that a fighter at my level gets to fight near home often. Fortunately I get that opportunity again in Dayton. I owe the state of Ohio a better performance and on October 26 when bright lights come on I’m going to show up and put on a great show.”
After collecting victories over Rosi Sextton, Jessica Aguilar and Megumi Fujii, Bellator Women’s Champion Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Gurgel is ready to re-introduce herself to MMA fans after spending over a year on the sidelines dealing with a string of injuries.
