Wargaming Announces Special 15-Year anniversary World of Tanks Tournaments
This week, Wargaming announced a special World of Tanks tournament in celebration of the company’s 15th anniversary. The tournament will unfold in key regions around the globe, including Europe, North America, Russia, South Korea, Southeast Asia, China, and Vietnam. Winning teams from each region will score themselves an all-expenses-paid trip to the World of Tanks development studio located in Minsk, Belarus. Following a traditional eSports 7 vs. 7 format, the tournaments will kick off in May, with final games scheduled for the end of June. Second and third place finishers won’t walk away empty-handed and will take home massive in-game gold prizes for their efforts.
“This is a great opportunity for teams around the globe to show their peers and prove they have what it takes to really be the best at World of Tanks,” said Alexey Kuznetsov, eSports Lead at Wargaming. “We’re extremely excited to welcome the winning teams to Belarus and give them a closer look at how their favorite game is made.”
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots Cancelled?
According to sources speaking to IGN, the US retailer GameStop has “actively flipped a switch” to remove Rainbow 6: Patriots from its systems. When pressed for further comment, all GameStop would say was that “We have stopped taking reservations as we wait to hear further from Ubisoft on an official release date for Rainbow 6: Patriots.” In March 2012, it was announced that creative director David Sears, narrative director Richard Rouse III, lead designer Philippe Therien, and animation director Brent George were all removed from the development team. No further announcements were made until November, when Ubisoft’s CEO reported that the game was still in development, but said that “there’s a good chance it can be” pushed back to next-generation consoles. So maybe it is just another delay and not cancelled, we will find out soon enough.

Rejoice!! EA Discontinuing the “Online Pass”
This week, EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg announced that EA would be putting an end to the “Online Pass”, causing gamers everywhere to cheer. Here is some of what Resenburg had to say – “None of our new EA titles will include that feature. Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format, we’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it, moving forward. We’re still committed to creating content and services that enhance the game experience well beyond the day you first start playing”.
Sony Comments on PlayStation 4 Content
In a recent article by Gamasutra, SCEE boss Shahid Kamal Ahmad and senior business development manager said – “I think we’re going to have a really good launch, and I think we’re going to have a good amount of content appearing for quite some time on that”. Kamal went on to talk about the partnerships with developers – “We’ve got more developer engagement on PS4 than we’ve had for any previous console, so that’s a really healthy sign. Over the last couple of years, the number of potential partners has exploded”. I for one cannot wait to see both the Xbox (720, Infinity, Durango) and the PS4 and the content that will be available in the six months following their respective releases.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Sales Surpass 424,000 in US
According to research firm Cowen & Company, Injustice: Gods Among Us sold over 424,000 units in the United States last month, giving NetherRealm the distinction of being the only April release that even surpassed 250,000 units sold. On Thursday afternoon, the NPD Group also confirmed that Injustice: Gods Among Us was the top seller for April. Video game sales have been down consistently lately but that doesn’t necessarily mean all bad news for the industry. Here is what NPD analyst Liam Callahan had to say in regards to the sales figures – “When taking into account our preliminary estimate for other physical format sales in April such as used and rentals at $76 million, and our estimate for digital format sales including full game and add-on content downloads including microtransactions, subscriptions, mobile apps and the consumer spend on social network games at $267 million, the total consumer spend in April is $802 million”.

CD Projekt RED announced this week that REDkit is now available, the ultimate set of tools for crafting non-linear role-playing adventures. Available for free via HERE, REDkit is based on the development tools used to create CD Projekt RED’s award-winning game, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The editor has just entered its open beta phase, allowing everyone who is waiting for The Witcher 3 to go back to the previous installment of the series and create new, amazing content or just play around with other modders’ creations. Here is the word from Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED – “For CD Projekt RED, RPGs are all about telling amazing stories, we want to give players the power to tell the same kind of non-linear, branching stories that made The Witcher games so popular. Our fans have helped us for years to make our games the best they can be, and REDkit is part of embracing our community as a partner in game development.”
