No Far Cry 3 on Wii U?

Because the Wii U’s hardware was not specifically considered at the onset of development on Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3, the game will not be coming to Nintendo’s new console. This puts Far Cry 3 on a list that includes Dead Space 3 and Resident Evil 6 – both being deprived of the slick Nintendo hardware. “We will not be releasing Far Cry 3 on Wii U,” read an official statement from Ubisoft, “The game has been in development for more than two years and at the time Wii U had not been considered.” Far Cry 3 hits US stores this December.

Sleeping Dogs DLC Update

The well-reviewed Hong Kong action homage Sleeping Dogs, in addition to reaping excellent sales figures in the time since its bow, has already announced a quartet of DLC packs for October. The Street Racer Pack introduces three new races set along the streets and rivers of Hong Kong, as well as a new “Sting” bike and a Dragon character outfit that protects against damage. The SWAT pack adds 20 emergency missions to Sleeping Dogs’ roster, including four different mission types and a new cop outfit (also with damage resistance), as well as an armored tactical van. Lastly, the Tactical Soldier DLC adds a Tactical Outfit (the most powerful armor in the game), as well as an assault rifle. Aside from these four, a secret, story-driven Sleeping Dogs DLC is being planned for an October 14th reveal at the New York Comic-Con, and a “Community Gift Pack” (no details as of press time) is also in the works. October will be a busy month for Sleeping Dogs fans.

The Halo 4 Hysteria Begins!

It just wouldn’t be the holidays without a build in the fanatical gaming excitement surrounding any Halo release, and franchise director Frank O’Connor was recently on hand for GameSpot affiliate Giant Bomb to stoke the flames. Though Halo 4 is still on track for a November 6th worldwide release, the project is already 99 percent done. O’Connor explains developer 343 Industries’ progress as such: “It’s just sort of getting it in shape for certification and then manufacture,” O’Connor said, “And then just cleaning out last minute bugs and getting ready for launch.” With 343’s major hurdles already overcome, it should only be a matter of time before gamers can strap back into Master Chief’s well-worn combat attire.

Gearbox and Olly Moss Controversy

Artist Olly Moss, renowned for designing avant-garde posters ranging from homage to the The Dark Knight Rises to classic tributes to the Deer Hunter, is irked that Gearbox looks to have borrowed heavily from his Empire Strikes Back poster in creating their own graphic for Borderlands 2. Even going so far as to say elements were lifted directly from his poster, which would be bound to anger even the most generous of illustrators, Moss said to Kotaku, “The clouds in the background were directly lifted from my Empire Strikes Back poster, which strikes me more as laziness than anything else… I’m sure it’s probably the work of a well-meaning internal designer who didn’t know any better.” In the time since the initial feather-ruffle, however, Moss has been quick to stamp out any animosity, saying in forums such as Twitter that “It’s not a big deal.”

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Multiplayer Beta

A multiplayer beta for Medal of Honor: Warfighter has been announced for early October, in which players will be able to try the game’s new HotSpot multiplayer mode. Using the game’s co-op Fireteam system, players will be able attack and defend in select areas of Bosnia’s Sarajevo Stadium. Additionally included in the beta is an hour of double XP, for use when the full version of Warfighter finally sees release. Linkin Park’s single “Castle of Glass,” a single which is being produced in tandem with Warfighter, might also be released early if this beta reaches three million players.

PS3 Game Development Ending After 2013?

Despite the oncoming deluge of next-generation consoles, PlayStation 3 will continue to develop and support titles for their long-successful system through 2013. This was recently brought to light by a Gamespot interview with PlayStation hardware marketing VP John Koller. Koller optimistically relayed to the publication, “We’re going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely. And we’re going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that’s running hot. And I can tell you right now, the development spigot for PS3 is very hot. A lot of great games coming. Same thing with PS2…it’s kind of stuck around as that old warrior, many years after its launch.”

New PlayStation 3 Available Later this Month

A new, slimmer 250GB version of the PlayStation 3 is due in North American stores on September 25th, initially bundled with Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (as well as a $30 voucher for Dust 514 bonus content). Priced at $270, it will be almost immediately succeeded by a 500GB Assassin’s Creed III bundle in October, with pricing details that are still unconfirmed. In addition to a new body and design, both updated versions of Sony’s classic consoles will be about 20 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than their predecessors.
