The Jury is out on Myles
By Christopher “sLapDatSuCKa” Jester
Myles Jury fights this week on The Ultimate Fighter 15 Live against Al Iaquinta. But before he squares off in the Octagon, fans should take a glimpse in what got Jury here in the first place.
Born October 31, 1988 in Michigan, the 9-0 Victory MMA prospect has had his eyes set on becoming an Ultimate Fighter for several years. He was featured on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Lesnar vs. Team Dos Santos season back in 2011, but had step away from the competition due to an ACL injury. With UFC President Dana White promising him a second chance at getting the TUF contract, Jury has stepped back into competition on the latest season of the MMA reality show.
Myles Jury isn’t just another typical young fighter. He has a budding opportunity to be a superstar in the sport. Undefeated, Myles has finished all of his opponents in the first round. What makes that stat even more startling is that he’s only 23 years old, and still should grow and mature as a fighter.
He’s been competing in some form of sport since he was in middle school. Initially, he focused on wrestling, but would later begin training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Brazilian black belt Don Richards. Years later, he would compete in local Jiu Jitsu events such as the Arnold’s World Championship, and would succeed with his comfortable prowess of wrestling and jiu-jitsu.
With experience in kickboxing as well, Jury is dangerous wherever the fight takes place. But it is obvious that he can impose his will on the mat much more than standing up. He has finished three of five submissions by guillotine, armbar, and neck crank. The other two submissions come by way of strikes. He’s dangerous everywhere the fight takes place, which is what makes him such a pivotal prospect to watch move up the ranks.
All Myles Jury wants to do now is back up the hype that is surrounding him. He was sidelined before due to his injury which disabled him to show TUF viewers what he could do. Dana White was obviously impressed by what he saw, but what does the average viewer think of Myles? Finishing fights in less than a minute can either make viewers go, “Wow this guy is amazing” or say, “Let’s see what he can do once he gets out of the first round.”
There is still a gap of mystery there between the mystique of Myles Jury and what he actually offers. As more time passes on the Ultimate Fighter, viewers will get to see whether or not Myles will bring the fury or if he will just be another prospect.
