The Smashing Machine – Details, Photos and Trailer

The Smashing Machine is the story of legendary mixed martial artist and UFC fighter Mark Kerr. During his MMA career, he was a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, World Vale Tudo Championship tournament winner, and a PRIDE FC competitor. In collegiate wrestling, Kerr was an NCAA Division I Champion. In freestyle wrestling, he won Gold and Silver medals at the World Cup and silver at the Pan American Games. In submission wrestling, Kerr is a four-time ADCC World Champion, winning his weight class twice along with the absolute division and the Super-fight Championship.

“The Rock” Dwayne Johnson stars as Mark Kerr and is barely recognizable in what appears to one of best performances to date. Johnson recently talked to Variety and stated that he wanted to work with Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, Good Time) on “The Smashing Machine” because “Benny wants to create and continues to push the envelope when it comes to stories that are raw and real, characters that are authentic and at times uncomfortable and arresting. I’m at a point in my career where I want to push myself in ways that I’ve not pushed myself in the past. I’m at a point in my career where I want to make films that matter, that explore a humanity and explore struggle and pain.”

“The Smashing Machine” comes to theaters on Oct. 3.
